Marin Scordato

Catholic University of America—Columbus School of Law

Professor Scordato received his B.A. with a double major in philosophy and psychology from Haverford College. After graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1983, he worked for two years as an associate at the Wall Street law firm of Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York City. Before joining the faculty of Catholic University's Columbus School of Law in 2002, Professor Scordato has taught Torts at Boston College Law School, Suffolk University School of Law, Florida State University School of Law, and University of Maryland School of Law. Remarkably, he has received Professor of the Year honors, and awards for excellence in teaching, at every school where he has taught.

Why do you teach for Law Preview?

It gives me with the opportunity tell incoming law students all of the things that I wish someone had told me when I was in their place.


Why is Law Preview better than other modes of preparing for law school?

It provides to students the insights of actual law school professors.

What is the most important skill law students lack when they begin law school that Law Preview teaches?

Understandably, they lack a larger perspective on the goals, pedagogical strategies and evaluation methods employed in most core law school courses. Law Preview provides them with that.


What are your favorite study aids for the subject-matter you teach at Law Preview?

Emanuel Law Outline Series: Torts by Steven Finz.


What is your favorite fiction/non-fiction book for the subject-matter you teach at Law Preview?

I still like One L: The Turbulent True Story of a First Year at Harvard Law School by Scott Turow.


What is your favorite casebook for the subject-matter you teach at Law Preview?

Torts: Cases And Materials by Schwartz, Kelly & Partlett.


What's your favorite thing about teaching the law?

Having the opportunity, year after year, to introduce and describe to young people some of the most significant ideas in our culture.
