Thomas Holm

University of California at Los Angeles School of Law

Thomas Holm serves as director and professor for the UCLA School of Law's Lawyering Skills Clinical Program. He teaches Lawyering Skills, a course for first-year law students that teaches practice-oriented legal analysis, legal research, legal writing, and clinical skills. He also teaches a Writing Advisor Seminar, an advanced legal writing course associated with the Program. In 2000, he was awarded UCLA's Distinguished Teaching Award. In 2010, he was awarded the Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest teaching honor for professors at UCLA School of Law. Professor Holm attended the University of Minnesota School of Law, where he was Notes and Comments editor for the University of Minnesota Law Review, was elected to The Order of the Coif, and received the ABA's Edward J. Devitt Scholarship for excellence in trial advocacy. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Arthur L. Alarcon of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and worked as an associate at the firm of Morrison & Foerster, where he specialized in insurance coverage and bank regulatory matters.

I love working with students and meeting new people. I especially like working with people who are energized about starting a new profession.

It teaches students how to approach analytical problems in a systematic way.
